Professor PLO Lumumba Outlines Challenges that Face Agriculture in Africa



Professor PLO Lumumba while giving a keynote speech titled "Agricultural transformation what it is and what it will take"'at the 2nd General Assembly of Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) in Bujumbura,Burundi on 9th December 2013, outlines changes facing agriculture sector in Africa.

He calls on change of mindset so as to revolutionise the current status of agriculture
  • ·         Liberating Africa from donor dependency
  • ·         Use of science and technology in Agriculture
  • ·         Capitalising on regional markets and trade within Africa
  • ·         Improving the transport system
  • ·         Reliable source of energy
  • ·         Scientists must translate their knowledge into farming practice


If these challenges are faced courageously, Africa stands a better chance to produce enough food for its people. Why do African countries need to import eggs and chicken from Europe or America?

WHAT DAR ES SALAAM BUS RAPID TRANSIT WILL LOOK LIKE!

A 3D simulation of the new Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit (DART) will give you an idea of how the new bus transport system will look like. The new system is aimed at easing traffic jams, improve safety for all road users, transport people efficiently and on a timed manner. For example, one will be able to calculate the time it takes from Ubungo to Posta, when to get the bus, as this information will be available to users at advance.
